I Know There Is More

Our rehabilitation promoters have great stories about what they’ve seen and heard working in the therapy program at ASELSI in Guatemala. A recent story shared with me centers around Jorge, a story that affected Delfina, one of our rehabilitation promoters.

Jorge, according to Delfina, is an adult patient that always does his part, but like all of us is discouraged at times. Although Jorge doesn’t want to hear about a God he thinks has punished him with four strokes and the loss of his family, Deflina continues to pray for him.

“Our patients need the help (therapy), but prayer, too, even if they don’t believe in it. I know my prayers for Jorge have changed him, even if he doesn’t see it,” shared Delfina. “I believe every prayer has its own miracle.”

Delfina has seen a man, discouraged after losing his wife and children due to his inability to provide for them because of his stroke, continue to fight and persevere while battling discouragement and depression. She’s seen him, after suffering his fourth stroke, determine to continue to work and learn to walk after one of his children reached out to him after being absent for years. To him, it was a ray of hope during a dark time.

Jorge has a lot of work to do, but he’s grateful. He knows if it were not for the help he’s receiving from Delfina and others, he would be lying in bed today instead of walking. He may think it is just the therapy, but Delfina knows there is more at work.
