Circumstances or Faith, What will you choose?

While reflecting over the last couple of days, I have realized something. Recent life circumstances rather than my faith have directed my actions. It’s been subtle, or maybe not so much. Some of the reasons for not moving forward in various activities have included these thoughts: This isn’t practical. It doesn’t make sense. Maybe I’d better wait; it’s not the right time. And especially currently, I’m going to wait and see what happens. The result: a tedious day-by-day existence, a lack of purpose, and an inability to wait and hear from the Lord.

Today, I had a wake up call. Due to recent life circumstances, I had put off moving forward with a project. A person, who is to be heavily involved, had fallen ill and I wasn’t sure he would recover sufficiently to do the task required. So I thought I’d wait and see, but God reminded me of His promise. Years before this illness, I believe God said this person would be involved in this work. Therefore, I could keep waiting for the circumstances to change or I could move forward in faith, believing God will keep his word.

I thought of Noah.  He didn’t wait for the rain to start coming before he built the ark. Nor did Joshua heed the negative report from some of the scouts but followed the faith-filled reports, even though in the minority, and led Israel into the promised land. Today I’ve resolved to move forward, to stop waiting for the circumstances to line up. Instead, I’ll move forward despite the circumstances, believing, as I do, that God will orchestrate His will, as He has said.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but  the word of our God stands forever.   Isaiah 40:8 (NASB)
